Honoring Mel King

Rest in Power Mel King

Mel King will be forever remembered for his life-long commitment to justice for oppressed people, from his groundbreaking legislation to his world renowed success in advocating for the creation of affordable housing to prevent displacement of working class people in the South End. His work has been a major inspiration for the creation of Reclaim Roxbury. Mel King served as a strategic advisor and mentor to the leaders of our movement, and we are forever grateful for him.

We are honored that Mel King chose two of Reclaim Roxbury’s founding members Armani & Alex to write the “Future Links in the Chain of Change”epilogue in the 2016 re-release of his book “Chain of Change”. If you haven’t read it, be sure to buy one atFrugal Bookstore Inc.in Nubian Square. In that epilogue, we reflect on our struggle to advocate for community control and how Mel King’s book helped us look back at the past to understand the future.

Reclaim Roxbury is committed to continuing the Chain of Change through our community organizing work and advocacy for public land for public good and development without displacement. Our sincerest condolences to Joyce, Pam, Michael and the whole King Family.
