Letter from the Director

It's Black History Month, Reclaim family.

The start of the year has been turbulent, as the federal government continues it's attack on our democracy and our people. Black and brown people across the country are being beaten, abducted and murdered by ICE, CBP, and DHS. The programs and services that supported so many in our community are being cut, or having access for our people drastically limited. Placards and memorials honoring our contributions are being altered, or removed entirely. Yet, we persist.

We persist because resilience and resistance have been a part of our story since we were stolen and shipped in floating coffins to the New World through the transatlantic slave trade. These qualities are rooted deep in our culture, the song of freedom resonating within our souls. They brutalize our bodies, attack our communities supports, and attempt to erase our history because they know that within these elements lies the blueprint for beating fascism.

It will take a revolutionary courage to win this moment. We access that courage by remembering what we have been through, honoring those we've lost in our fight for freedom, celebrating the breadth and depth and vibrancy of our Diasporic community, and learning from the past to inform our present so we can take control of our future. Stay ready. Stay strong. All power to the people.

— Cole Gibson, Organizing Director, Reclaim Roxbury

Trump's HUD attacks Boston's fair housing intiatives

Before the end of 2025, Trump's Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) decided they want to investigate Boston for alleged anti-white housing discrimination.

This attacks the critical work that Reclaim Roxbury and Boston’s fair housing advocates have done over the past decades to protect Black and Brown communities from gentrification and displacement. Reclaim Roxbury, Boston Tenant Coalition and other members of the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) Community Advisory council came together with local city councilors and rallied to denounce this baseless investigation together before the new year, and to defend Boston’s obligation to advance fair housing.

The Trump administration's absurd claim of anti-white discrimination within Boston’s housing initiatives is a reminder that reading and education are fundamental 👀 and why our Fair Housing workshops remain crucial to defeating these false narratives. We mourn the passing of Joseph Eubanks, Jr.

Our beloved friend Joseph Eubanks Jr., a proud son of Roxbury , a true community leader, and Vice President of Black Net Worth Development Association Inc passed away before the new year, on December 20, 2025. He was outspoken, principled, deeply loving, and unwavering in his commitment to his community.

Joe was a constant in the life of the community. He followed politics closely, spoke his truth boldly, and never hesitated to share his analysis or hold leaders accountable.

The community is coming together to ensure Joe receives the dignified homegoing he deserves and to fulfill the wish of laying him to rest in Augusta, Georgia, alongside his parents.

Any contribution, large or small, will help honor a man who spent his life showing up for others.

Click the button below to access the GoFundMe set up by local residents and friends of Joe, and donate to Joe's homegoing services. Please give if you are able. Please share if you can.

Let’s come together, one last time, for The Honorable Joseph Eubanks Jr.

The City is changing the plan for Parcel P3. Here's how we responded.

During the January's Roxbury Strategic Master Plan Oversight Committee (RSMPOC) meeting, the Mayor's Office of Housing made a shocking announcement: the City will not have the BPDA board renew the  HYM/My City at Peace for the development of Parcel P3.

The planned development was supposed to bring economic development in the form of life science lab spaces, a new office space and museum for Embrace Boston, and a range of deeply affordable housing for Roxbury residents—now the parcel is being considered as a potential location for a new Madison park High School, with any remaining space left open for development proposals.

Reclaim Roxbury's Executive Director voiced our concern to the Planning Department with the sudden development from the City, specifically in regard to upholding the development standards and the community review and approval process that is written into law to ensure community vision in local devleopment decisions. You can read our questions and the Planning Department's responses using the button below. We will post updates in our newsletter and through additional outreach as we receive them, including ways for our community to engage in the future of Parcel P3. Stay tuned from an Op-ed from our Executive Director regarding the progress of the development and our critical perspective.

'Civics Rox!' Roxbury Civic Engagement & Education Series

Reclaim Roxbury is partnering with Madison Park, Urban Edge and GreatestMINDS Boston to host a regular, safe space for both legacy and new community members to learn more about how our systems work: what do our elected officials and civic administrators do, how does the policy and political process work, and how we engage with them to create positive change for our community.

The first workshop will be February 14th from 11-12:30 PM at The DeWitt Center. We encourage you to attend and invite 5 friends or family members to join us. Snacks, beverages, and Valentine's Day candy will be provided! You can scan the QR code or click the button below to RSVP. Registration is encouraged, not required.
